About the Artist

af1qipnjgnzbjmtjytjji473bjlkaoba-4tp1n2nisf5i-uSage Garver is an undergraduate senior at CSULB currently pursuing her BFA in the sculpture program. She transferred to CSULB as a sophomore from El Camino College and will be graduating soon. She does not have any plans to go to graduate school after graduation, but instead wants to moves to Hawaii and get a job there while working on her art. Her hobbies insclude swimming, hiking, cooking and traveling. Since she has just been living with the sickness her whole life, she believed that art was something she could do without moving around too much. Sage’s illness led to her creating this exhibition where she depicts the biology inside of her body. The artist never specified her illness.

Content Analysis

After reading the artist’s statement and interviewing her, I found out that the exhibition was symbolism for her body. I also found out that the room was meant to represent the cells inside of her body. The bumps and raises in the walls portrayed the cell structures inside of our bodies. The chandelier/jewel piece is actually the nucleus of the cell that brings together the whole room. I thought the fork was really random at first, but now I think it perhaps represents how the artist’s illness limited her from eating what she wanted and when she could. It also might just be for personal expression or aesthetics though.
